“Alright so here we are in front of the elephants, and the cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really really long trunks. And that’s cool! And that’s pretty much all I have to say.”
What you’re reading here is not the beginning of a book about animals, no elephant documentary – NO, you’re reading the lines, which are spoken in the first YouTube-clip ever! If one had only known then what was set in a motion!
This is where our series of showing you some producers of explainer videos on YouTube goes on. Today, we’d like to acquaint you with Kurzgesagt (in a nutshell).
If you’re interested in our opinion of them, click here:
The YouTube channel was established in Munich and deals with designing and animating videos, and covers the areas of education, science and commerce. Apart from that, interaction and music are an additional part of their work. Founded in 2013, the channel already counts more than two million subscribers and 40 videos. After not even three years, Kurzgesagt has cooperated with big brands like Microsoft, Audi or Siemens. With a minimalist and colorful design, the channel stays in mind. You cannot only visit them on their website but also in numerous social networks. So they try to explain the world to you – everywhere! To make a long story short – we have a lot in common with them 😉
As announced, we present to you today the second producer who we support by making a portion of his educational videos multilingually available: MinutePhysics!
First of all, we have an apposite trailer for you:
The YouTube channel MinutePhysics was founded in 2011 by Henry Reich. Meanwhile, the channel consists of 163 videos, has over 3 million subscribers and nearly 250 million views. As the name already suggests, the videos of MinutePhysics explain physics-related topics easily and understandable in around one minute – true to the motto “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough” (Albert Einstein). The explanations are supported by time-lapsed drawings.
Should children watch online videos? Nowadays, where children come into contact with the internet from an early age, many parents will ask themselves this question. We say: yes, because the world of online videos holds an incredible number of exciting, funny and educational videos ready. With the YouTube Kids app, YouTube makes a preliminary selection of videos which are especially suitable for children. We at alugha also have our own KidsSpot. The great thing about it? The videos are all multilingual so that children will not only be entertained but can also learn and practice foreign languages at the same time!
Exactly half a year ago, I started working as a working student at alugha in the fields of social media and online editorial. Since my job interview with a difference, a lot of things happened. Find out here, what exactly that was. I’ll give you an insight into my time at alugha and I can already say this much: among other things, it’s about catchy songs, flapper girls, rock musicians, football table duels and of course multilingualism 🙂
An incredible number of videos of every imaginable topic is accessible at all times on the Internet: From explanations of complex physical facts, to historical documentations and background reports, to political speeches. This diversity can enrich not only private users, but lessons in schools as well. Therefore, we are of the opinion that lecturers should use videos more often and integrate them into their lessons meaningfully.
The world of online videos always has new surprises and innovations ready in order to make the video experience as exciting as possible. Experience videos realistically, the feeling of being in the thick of it? Youtube has brought new features that make exactly this possible: With virtual reality (VR) videos, you can immerse yourself in a three-dimensional reality. All you need is an Android smartphone and a Google Cardboard viewer.
