YouTube Red – video giant started paid service

Does this sound familiar: You quickly want to watch a video on YouTube, click Play and what’s coming? Advertisment! Even though it’s just a few seconds, it’s still annoying. Certainly, the company google is aware of this, too. Therefore, YouTube has been ad-free since the beginning of October – however, only for those who use the fee-based YouTube Red. Until now, this paid service has only been available in the US (9,99$ per month), but according to YouTube the implementation in further important markets – including Germany – is planned for the coming year.

1st movie, 1st festival, 1st price – About the development of “Berndout”

Who hasn’t sometimes imagined how it would be to shoot a movie and to be able to decide oneself how the story is going to develop? Arthur Rewak and our CEO/CVO Bernd Korz also had this dream… and they realized it without hesitation during a stay in the US in May. The result was the alugha-produced short movie of 10 minutes “Berndout” which premiered at the international short film festival BermudaShorts in Mannheim five weeks ago – and it directly won the audience award.

StreamingMedia East in New York – the first “real” show for us?

By now we’ve been on various StartUp Conferences like the Wolves Summit, Collision, WebSummit, TheNextWeb… and there we made a lot of exciting contacts and gained exciting experiences. The CeBIT in Turkey was our first try of attending a big fair, admittedly it was “exciting” for us but we did not really fit, which meant continue searching. With the CES in Las Vegas in January it became much better and we felt more comfortable concerning the target groups and target country, particularly as we decided to become more active in the USA.

Las Vegas Collision Conf 2015 – Roundup

It were really two crazy, smashing, exciting but also exhausting days for us in Las Vegas. After our arrival (our previous news with video) we started the crunch time. It wasn’t an easy decision whether to take on all those exertions and if spending the time and effort will be worth while. But as always in life, at the right place to the right time and all doubts are gone.

Collision Conf ’15 Las Vegas – the arrival

After the WebSummit in Dublin / Ireland, the WolvesSummit in Gdynia / Poland this is now the next StartUp exhibition of this series we are participating. It takes place in smashing Las Vegas in the Nevada desert and therefore it was a long journey for us. It took nearly 24 hours door to hotel door, accordingly we were really whacked. Despite being awake for 24 hrs, sleeping worked brilliantly and eyes were shut by 10pm (Las Vegas time – 7am Monday morning in Germany).

Introduce yourself! Who are you and what are you doing?

My name is Melanie Promberger, I’m 45 years old, and I live in Munich for 12 years now. Since then I am working in a little PR agency there and I’m taking care of different projects.

How did you come to alugha?

I met Bernd Korz, founder of alugha, some years ago when he was working on his YouTube channel hoTodi TV. We gave him a lot of input about products and stuff like that. When I met him and his son Niklas last year at CES he told me about the idea of alugha and I was sure that I want to support this little startup. It took us almost one year, but now I’m finally part of the team.
